Number-noun used as adjectives:
Nazi: listen to this, ” they have a 2-year-old son”. I think it’s wrong, it should be ” they have a 2-years-old son” right?
Me: wrong!
Nazi: Why??
Me: 2-year-old has come before the noun ‘son’ to give us more information about it so it works like an adjective and adjectives never take the plural ” s”
Nazi: ahhh!! Can you give me more examples?
Me: sure, a five-step ladder, a two-hundred-page book, a ten-minute workout, a five-day job, a thirty-year-old man.
Nazi: I’m a seventeen-year-old girl.
Me: Good job!
در انگلیسی از ترکیب عدد و اسم با خط فاصله می‌توان بعنوان صفت قبل از اسم دیگری استفاده کرد ولی نکته ی مهم اینست که در این صورت در ترکیب عدد و اسم همواره اسم باید به شکل مفرد بکار برود نه جمع و میان واژه ها از خط فاصله استفاده شود برای مثال:
Five-year-old children بچه های پنج ساله
A two-hour meeting جلسه ی دو ساعته
